Joe Sutherland

Joe graduated from Northumbria University in Msc Physiotherapy in 2019, having previously completed a Bachelors Degree in Sport and Exercise Science.

Since qualifying as a Physiotherapist, Joe has gained vast experience in all clinical areas whilst working in the NHS. He worked as a Senior MSK Physiotherapist, specialising in complex trauma and post-operative injuries, alongside general acute and chronic injuries. He recently completed a Masters Module in the Advanced Musculoskeletal Management of the Lower Quadrant at Sheffield Hallam University, which he was able to apply in a gym-based rehabilitation environment with people of a various functional capabilities and age groups.

Alongside Joe's work in public health he also has experience of working in elite sport. Having worked in the Championship First Division of English Football Academy of Barnsley FC and gaining further experience at Premier League Academy Newcastle United FC. Furthermore, Joe spent time working in a private MSK clinic working with runners, weightlifters, team sports and general outpatients and ageing pathologies.

Joe has a goal-focused approach, providing a clear step-by-step plan to improve people's health, well-being and performance.

Outside of work Joe enjoys staying fit and active by playing Football & Golf, and definitely understands the frustrations of being injured! 

His special interests are:

  • Rehabilitation of ACL injuries (Conservative/Surgical)
  • Knee Injuries (Meniscus, Osteoarhtritis and Tendinopathies)
  • Elective and Trauma Orthopaedics (Hip/Knee/Ankle Replacements, Polytraumas & Ilizarov Frames)
  • Running Related Injuries and Acute & Chronic Ankle Injuries (Achilles Ruptures, Tendinopathies and Ligament Injuries)
  • Strength and Conditioning to optimise performance and injury prevention
  • Lower Back Injuries
