Pilates can be performed on very specialised pieces of equipment, such as the reformer, cadillac (or trapeze table), wunda chair, spine corrector and ladder barrel. Using equipment, Pilates becomes more specific and specialised as body parts can be supported and resistance can be added or taken away. This can increase or decrease the challenge of an exercise. The repertoire of exercises that can be performed on the equipment is endless, meaning that you will never become bored with your program.
At REVIVE we strongly recommend equipment Pilates for anyone with musculo-skeletal or medical issues such as back or neck pain, fibromyalgia, joint pain or stiffness, pregnancy etc.
When starting equipment Pilates, we have a basic requirement that you complete three hours of one-on-one training with a physiotherapist and instructor. During these sessions you will be assessed and taught the basic principles of Pilates, your deep abdominal muscles will be scanned with a "real-time" ultrasound machine and your program will be formulated with your specific needs in mind.
Once your instructor is satisfied that you are ready, you are able to participate in group sessions with up to three other clients to one instructor.
Some people may prefer to continue training one-on-one for the closer attention of the instructor.
Equipment Pilates training is a superior workout in many ways - your program is designed specifically for you and your needs following an in depth assessment with an experienced physiotherapist. The increased specificity and intensity of the workout means you will see faster and more noticeable results. We recommend that all Pilates participants do at least 2 equipment sessions per week to see results. These sessions run throughout the day on the hour. Once you have completed your initial three sessions you will be eligible to start group training and you just need to book your preferred times in advance to reserve your permanent bookings.
Initial Assessment and one on one session (obligatory)
This is a one hour session with a physiotherapist. It involves assessment of your strength, flexibility, balance and any injuries you have; an ultrasound scan on your deep abdominal muscles and the basic principles of Pilates. From this session your physiotherapist will design your personalized program of Pilates exercises.
Second and Third Sessions (obligatory)
These sessions can be with a physiotherapist or Pilates instructor. During these two one hour sessions you will become familiar with the equipment and consolidate your program so you can move into group training with confidence.
Personal one hour session
You may choose to work one on one with an instructor to clarify exercises, to extend your program or simply because you prefer to work one on one. Think of this as Pilates personal training.
Group Training
One hour training session with two to three other clients (i.e. max 4 in a group). You do your own personalised program under the supervision of an instructor or Physiotherapist.
5 Personal Sessions pass
You can reduce the cost of your personal training by purchasing a card of 5 sessions (these must be used within 6mths of purchase)
10 Group Session pass
You can reduce the cost of your group training by purchasing a pack of 10 groups. You can still claim a rebate from your health fund for these group sessions, however you cannot do so until you have completed the entire 10 groups.
20 Group session pass
Designed for the dedicated Pilates client, these cards further reduce the cost of group training. As with the 10 group pass, you can still claim a rebate from your health fund for these group sessions, however you cannot do so until you have completed the entire 20 groups.

Rescan/Reassessment
If you see a Pilates instructor and are claiming your Pilates sessions on your health fund under physiotherapy cover, you MUST have regular contact with a physiotherapist. This is a requirement of your health fund in order for you to claim.
You are therefore required to have a RESCAN and REASSESSMENT session (1hr) with a physiotherapist every tenth session. This session will be a chance for you to see your abdominal muscles activating again to see your progress and check if you are still recruiting these muscles correctly. Your physiotherapist will also be re-assessing your stability, flexibility and strength to give you feedback about your progress and revisit and update your goals.
There will be some changes to your Pilates program – you may receive a couple of new exercises, some progressions or some changes. Your program will not markedly change, but you should feel more focused and confident about your exercises. This session is also a chance to speak to your physiotherapist about any injury, mobility or pain issues and explore physiotherapy treatment concurrently with Pilates to accelerate your rehabilitation.
Please note this session is not included in any group card purchases.
Reprogram +/- Rescan
If you are a regular Pilates participant, you will find from time to time the need to add to and progress your program. To prevent you from getting bored with your sessions, you can completely change your program or just change some of it. You may just wish to be working harder and feel the need for a more challenging program. We would advise you to book a REPROGRAM session (1hr). You can book this session with a Pilates instructor or physiotherapist (your choice). If you do this session with a Pilates instructor and you wish to claim on your health fund, then you MUST have contact with a physiotherapist during this hour. We do have two Pilates instructors who are registered with health funds and you can claim on your Pilates cover (rather then physiotherapy cover) if you see Lizzi or Jenny. Please note there is a price difference to have a reprogram with a physiotherapist. Following any major changes to your program, we strongly recommend that you follow up this session with a one-on-one session to consolidate and learn your new exercises correctly before returning to group training.
Please note this session is not included in any group card purchases.
